What we say

Location, location, location, I challenge anyone to find me a view more spectacular for a hotel than the one chosen by the pioneering founders of Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge. It is, quite simply, spectacular. As you enter the lodge, Mount Machhapuchhare, the iconic peak towering over the Pokhara Valley, is framed in the doorway, it dominates your stay; in the evening the setting sun glints off Phewa Lake rendering it 24-carat gold, and on a clear morning, Mount Machhapuchhare is reflected in the azure pool. Magical doesn’t quite cover it.

What also makes this place extraordinary is that Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge pioneered sustainable tourism 25 years before sustainability was ‘a thing’ and have evolved into regenerative tourism today. From inception, it has connected travellers to local culture and nature through guided hikes, traditional cuisine and a team of locals who have delighted in sharing their heritage. Many other factors have also contributed to ensure this property’s quiet but enduring success; the organic garden and home-crafted food, the experiences, the quality of the guides and the ambience, the list goes on.

It’s a place to sit and just be. Dragonflies flit as eagles soar on the thermals. Birds sing and provide brilliant flashes as they celebrate living here. Butterflies are in abundance. As hours pass in idle reverie (well if not out hiking), the team keep watchful eye from respectful distance then simply appear with Nepali tea and homemade cake or a gentle, ‘gin and tonic madam?’ sounding as almost a whisper on the breeze at the moment when you’d just been starting to think of it.

Evenings are spent around the fire, there’s dinner, convivial chat and the national game of Bagh-Chal to learn (or tigers and goats to you and me.).

Inviting them to join this guide was a no brainer.

Our three words:

Spectacular | Pioneering | Magical

Hotel Story

Founded by Tiger Tops and Mountain Travel Nepal, pioneers of wildlife and mountain tourism, Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge was born from a royal moment—established at the very spot where the Prince of Wales first rested during his 1980 Royal Trek, captivated by the breathtaking ridge-top views.

The lodge’s philosophy revolves around creating an alternative to traditional trekking through a welcoming fixed base that feels like a true Himalayan home. Under the dedicated stewardship of Marcus Cotton, who lived on-site for 22 years, this hasn’t just been a business—it’s been a labour of love fostering genuine connections between guests, staff, and the spectacular landscape.

Perched dramatically 1000 feet above Pokhara Valley, the lodge offers front-row seats to three towering 27,000-foot giants—Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I, and Manaslu. The magic lies in its authentic atmosphere: 80% of staff have remained since opening in 1998, creating an extraordinary continuity of warm, personalized service that makes every guest feel like returning family.

Whether you’re seeking gentle day hikes through rhododendron forests, exhilarating paragliding adventures, or simply contemplating the Himalayas from the hilltop pool, this lodge offers something profoundly special—a genuine sense of homecoming amid some of Earth’s most magnificent mountains, where every sunset feels like a personal gift.
