What we say

Maybe because I’m a solo traveller or maybe I just prefer boutique and quirky, but Ranjit’s SVAASA was my first choice on visiting Amritsar. There are very few privately owned historic buildings remaining in the city, making this genuinely special. For sustainability we preferred restored over newly built, and this living museum traces back 200 years to Maharaja Ranjit Singh and the completion of the gilding of the Golden Temple.

It was Rama Ranjit Mehra, who was one of very few women who studied Interior Architecture in the 1970s, and led the restoration, along with her 3 sons in 2000.  It is now run by her twin sons Vishal Chand, a Breathwork practitioner, and Abhimanyu Rattan, a hotel management graduate and is hands on with the operations, and Vishal Chand, a designer who curated the haveli. This now restored family haveli that once hosted extended family and British guests, has undergone a revival with a philosophy stemming from Rama, which centres on creating a place for “that much desired pause” in today’s fast-paced world.

With just 15 boutique rooms and suites, this intimate space feels genuinely like staying in someone’s cherished family home rather than a commercial property from family art on the walls to quirky tea sets, that have stood the test of time. The cuisine operates a farm-to-table approach & uses vegetables they grow themselves, plus they source (delicious) handmade cookies from clay ovens in the Walled City, handcrafted cheese from Himachal’s organic cow milk, and coffee directly from Karnataka plantations.

Sustainable practices include 100% rainwater recycling, kitchen waste composting, homemade seasonal jams and pickles, even remolding tea-light candles and reusing old towels for housekeeping.

This is conscious luxury with soul.

Our three words:

Heritage | Intimate | Authentic

Hotel Story

Founded by Rama Ranjit Mehra, a Functional Medicine Practitioner, alongside her 3 sons, Iqbal Rattan, a finance graduate, and her twin sons Vishal Chand and Abhimanyu Rattan. Rama, an Interior Architect from the pioneering 1970s generation, restored this dilapidated ancestral haveli that once hosted extended family and British guests along with her 3 sons. Vishal, a Meditative Breathwork practitioner and Spatial Designer, and Abhimanyu, a hotel management graduate, collaborated to authentically revive this 200-year-old legacy tracing back to Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s era.

The philosophy centres on creating “that much desired pause” in today’s fast-paced world—a space where guests feel safe, loved, and can connect within. This home with a soul encourages authentic self-expression while infusing health and tranquility into every experience.

This intimate living museum features 15 boutique rooms and suites within one of Amritsar’s few remaining privately owned historic buildings. The property operates on farm-to-fork principles with daily changing menus, homemade preserves, and Royal Family recipes requiring 12-24 hour preparation. Guests experience bespoke SVAASA baithaks, comprehensive wellness treatments, Punjabi cooking classes, and heritage walks. The property houses an art gallery, celebrates local festivals, and offers unique experiences including village tours, cow feeding at Gaushala, and bird watching. Sustainable practices include rainwater harvesting, organic farming, composting, and supporting local artisans through handcrafted amenities and locally sourced ingredients.
