What we say

I have spent several Christmases at Dev Shree, which tells you something. It is the place I head to when I need to stop, sit, watch the birds, chat with Shatrunjai over something cold, and just breathe. On busy India trips, that matters more than another fort.

The building looks like a restored heritage home. It isn’t. Shatrunjai built it from scratch using local Chittorgarh stone and local craftsmen, and he did it so well that everyone assumes it has been in the family for generations. He and Bhavna cut their teeth running Deogarh Mahal before conceiving Dev Shree as something more personal, a proper homestay where ten rooms open onto a central courtyard and the family lives on site with dogs and strong opinions about how guests should be looked after. They are some of the best in the business and it shows in everything from the food to the showers, which are genuinely some of the best in Rajasthan. Some things just stick.

The experiences are unglamorous in the best way. A rattling commuter train through the Aravallis. A cycle past farms. A village walk to buy vegetables, then back to cook them. Sundowners by the lake with leopard spotting on the drive home. The community work through their trust is substantial: 135 schools supported, a girls’ school built, the local hospital equipped with an ICU.

Deogarh falls between Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur and Ranthambhore. Give it three nights at least. You will not regret a single one.

Hotel Story

Dev Shree is an enchanting boutique residence perched on an Aravalli plateau overlooking Ragho Sagar Lake, offering an intimate family home experience in the heart of Rajasthan’s countryside.
Built in 2015 by Shatrunjai Singh Chundawat, Dev Shree represents his vision to create a heritage home resonating with royal lineage. Working alongside his wife Bhavna Kumari, they meticulously used locally sourced materials and craftsmen throughout construction. Now joined by sons Mahadhriti Singh and Bhagyaditya Singh, the family operates this on-site residence where tradition meets professional hospitality excellence.

Their philosophy centers on growing with local communities while maintaining international standards. Every element reflects this commitment: native plantings preserve natural surroundings, local staff comprise the entire workforce with women representing majority employment, and comprehensive community support through the Dev Shree Charitable Trust reaches 135 government schools with essential supplies and infrastructure.
Built using local Chittorgarh stone by regional artisans, the property showcases authentic Rajasthani craftsmanship through Jaipur block printing, Bikaner handwoven textiles, and locally tailored furnishings. Complete solar power, comprehensive rainwater harvesting, drip irrigation farming, zero single-use plastics, and organic cultivation demonstrate exceptional environmental stewardship.

The 10 stylishly decorated suites open onto a central courtyard where guests gather for evening conversations under star-spangled skies. Farm-to-table dining features fresh produce grown using sustainable methods while curated experiences include rural train rides, village walks, Aravalli treks, cooking classes, and evening jeep safaris searching for leopards. This midway location between Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Udaipur provides the perfect respite for travelers seeking authentic Rajasthani rural culture combined with tranquil luxury.
